In My Mailbox (89) / Stacking The Shelves (10)

What a crazy busy week! I won’t go into details but I will say that it is awesome to finally be at the weekend and have a day of rest (tomorrow I’m going to Kim Sabatini’s launch party at Oblong Books). I did not get any books in the mail last week and with the hurricane I wasn’t so selfish as to expect packages what with all the flooding and such in the city. However, I do have a few books to share with you because I didn’t do a mailbox haul post last week, plus I bought a few for my Kindle.

For Review:

The Voyage Of Lucy P. Simmons by Barbara Mariconda (Vine) – I choose this book from Vine because one of my favorite MG authors, Gary Schmidt, has a blurb on the back cover that says this MG book is ‘a hymn to courage’. That’s very appealing to me.

Will Sparrow’s Road by Karen Cushman (Vine) – I picked this one out because it’s short, it’s historical fiction and is all about an orphaned runaway during Elizabethan times. HECK YES.

Colin Fischer by Ashley Edward Miller and Zach Stentz audiobook (Accepted Review Copy) – This was another BEA YA/MG Buzz Book and I am ALL about reading those, plus the story sounds great and it’s narrated by Jesse Eisenberg.

Insurgent: Collector’s Edition by Veronica Roth (Unsolicited) – So, I’ve already read and reviewed Insurgent, however, I will be posting a brief review of the bonus content during a weekend day with a quick link to my review of the story so y’all can decide if you really want this edition or not.

The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters vol. 1 Phantom by “LJ Smith” (Unsolicited) – I’m not entirely sure if I will read this or not, given the whole drama that went down with the series essentially being taken from LJ Smith. That kind of bothers me on a moral level.

The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters vol. 3 Destiny Rising by “LJ Smith” (Unsolicited) – Again, this is the third book and I don’t have book 2 and basically what I said for vol. 1.

Beauty by Lauren Conrad (Unsolicited) – I won’t even pretend I wasn’t excited for this. You guys as a total ugly duckling, I friggen love the Beauty Department website run by Lauren Conrad, so you better believe I am super excited to read through Beauty and get some tips on how not to look like an old hag.

Starstruck by Lauren Conrad (Unsolicited) – I haven’t read the first book, nor do I have a copy of it, so expect a giveaway to come as heck I got the book, might as well promote it by giving it away because there’s definitely an audience for it.

Days Of Blood And Starlight by Laini Taylor (Netgalley) – DUH YOU GUYS. DUHHHH. Of course I immediately accepted this one when it came up in my email omg Karouuuuu Akivaaaaaaaa GET IN MY KINDLE! I swear I will get to this book by Tuesday at the latest.

Purchased:

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien narrated by Rob Inglis audiobook – Do you guys really need me to explain why I bought this? Okay, so I’ve read The Hobbit before, way back in high school, because The Hobbit is totally legit for always. Anyways, I was totally mesmerized by the preview of the audio on Audible, so OF COURSE, I bought it with my credit.

Rootless by Chris Howard narrated by Nick Podehl audiobook – I don’t know what this is about and don’t care. It’s narrated by Nick Podehl and a YA book, and that is enough for me.

Guns, Germs And Steel by Jared Diamond (Kindle) – This nonfiction book is only $3.90 right now on Kindle and when I was getting my degree in social studies education, this was one of the recommended books. Another of the recommended books was A People’s History Of The United States by Howard Zinn, which I absolutely loved. So I am kind of sure I will enjoy this one and learn a lot from it.

When She Woke by Hillary Jordan (Kindle) – This was only $1.99 when I bought it. I immediately purchased it because Shannon at Giraffe Days’ awesome review was still in my mind.

Guys Read: Funny Business edited by Jon Scieszka (Kindle) – This is only $1.99 and the Guys Read series is great, like I loved Guys Read: Thriller, so I think I’ll dig this book too.

The Ghosts Of Ashbury High by Jaclyn Moriarty (Kindle)  – At the time that I purchased, this book was $1.24, but it’s back up to $8 now. So, yes, I feel like I totally scored with this Aussie contemporary book.

Firelight by Kristen Callihan (Kindle) – Yo, Allison at The Allure Of Books read and loved this and that is enough for me. Plus, the $1.99 price tag helps.

A Creed Country Christmas by Linda Lael Miller (Kindle) – Ugh, I just kept looking at this cover on Amazon and was like, okay I like Christmas and I like small towns and I like cowboys and I like low prices. OKAY AMAZON FINE I WILL JUST BUY THIS FOR $1.24. FINE!

Between The Lines by Tammara Webber (Kindle) – I’m such a loser because I haven’t read any of Webber’s books yet, but she seems to be taking my friends, Allison, and the YA blogosphere by storm. At $1.99 yeah, I bought it.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I admit to being a total history nerd, but am on the fence with how I feel about Blackwood by Gwenda Bond.

My first time… reading AS King and falling in love with ASK THE PASSENGERS.

Fill Your Kindle with 81 Kindle Books under $5, but be sure to check the price before one-click purchasing.

My first Waiting On Wednesday in over 2 years and you guys I made sure not to be boring or generic. This week I am waiting on THE END GAMES by T. Michael Martin.

ERMAGHERD I FOUND AN ADORABLE CONTEMPORARY BOOK. And have decided on being Team Goofball, check this review of Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill.

Ghosts get no love, I tell ya, which is why I found The Whispering House by Rebecca Wade so refreshing!

  1. How cool that you got an unsolicited copy of Insurgent! I wasn’t that crazy about the book (the relationship problems got to me) but I’m still jealous lol. The end of Insurgent.. man, oh man. SO INTENSE!

    Have an epic week. 🙂

  2. What a great haul, hun! And I hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend after your busy week 🙂

I had no idea that Lauren was behind The Beauty Department – I love that site, their nail tutes are awesome 🙂

  3. Pretty Insurgent! And it’s a Collector’s Edition? Awesome! ^__^ I’ve yet to read it but I gobbled up Divergent earlier in the year and LOVED it. It seems to be a book you either love or hate so I’m really hoping the sequel ends in a win for me. *hopes*

I’m all for beauty tips and tricks but you are not an ugly duckling. Your P R E T T Y.

  4. Oh, mama, I want that beautiful looking Insurgent COLLECTOR’S EDITION. May I remind you that you are now worthy of THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION. Harper Teen was very nice to you last week.

After reading Easy, I’m in love with Webber’s writing ability. IT WAS SO SO GOOD. There is a reason all of your friends have been saying HAPPY THINGS, April. And now I’m here to spout *happy gibberish* because oh, the book is so good. Also, it was sexy! So so sexy. READ IT. Happy reading all the pretty!

  5. My love for Tammara Webber runs so deep and I’ve only read Easy by her. For serious you need to read that book like yesterday! But I did by her Between series as well and I am excited to read it. Also, you most definitely do not look like an old hag!!! But I think I will check out Laurens books and/or website. Beauty tips are always good especially for days when my face/hair do not feel like cooperating. Enjoy all of your new books 🙂

  6. Great haul! I thought Style by Lauren Conrad was a pretty amazing book, so I can’t wait to get my hands on Beauty. Hopefully Santa will bring me a copy 😉
    Enjoy your new books!

  7. I got that Harper package last week! I am really excited about the collector’s edition of INSURGENT. Happy reading, April!

  8. I pre-ordered Days of Blood and Starlight–I plan to read it and Daughter of Smoke and Bone back to back once it arrives.

Yay for The Hobbit! I just acquired a new edition myself but instead of being an audiobook it’s leatherbound.

  9. I really need to catch up on all the Vampire Academy books because I’m so behind! I hope you enjoy everything you got this week though!

    My IMM

  10. I’m reading Days of Blood & Starlight now, and I’m feeling like I should have skimmed the end of DoSaB first… so you might want to refresh yourself. It plunges straight back in, there’s no easing or reminding, really.

  11. I still haven’t read anything by Tammara Webber either. I bought Easy for my kindle months, and months ago, but still haven’t gotten to it yet. I really need to because I keep hearing amazing things about it.

  12. Yes! When She Woke is awesome, you’ll dig it. I read it before I started blogging, but it’s one that’s really stuck with me. I was totally going on and on about it last week when I was in Salem at Nathaniel Hawthorne’s home (you know, because I never actually read The Scarlet Letter and this is the closest I came).

Also excited about Will Sparrow’s Road, and Rootless. I plan to buy the audio as well! It sounds awesome, and yes, Nick Podehl.

  13. Did you know I still need to read Insurgent? I know. FOR SHAME.

Also, all of the HELL YEAHS to The Hobbit. On audio, I can’t even imagine how epic it is.

  14. You got to go to Kim Sabatini’s launch party?!?! Awesome! I am so jealous of all the bookish things you can do in NY!

Oooh, the cover of The Voyage of Lucy P. Simmons is super awesome. I love MG covers. The cover of Will Sparrow’s Road, on the other hand, is very unfortunate.

I’ve been curious about Colin Fischer! Will anticipate your review.

Most of the rest of those physical copies that you got are hilarious to me.

I bought Rootless this week too, though not the audio.

  15. Wow what a spectacular haul! I hope you’ll love Insurgent as much as I did! And I’m way jealous about you getting your hands on Days of Blood & Starlight ♥!! Also loved seeing The Hobbit on there, I hope you’ll enjoy the audiobook! I’ll be keeping an eye out for your reviews, even The Hobbit since I’d want to check it out on audio if it’s worth it! Thanks for sharing & for stopping by my StS New follower via G+, Twitter & FB 🙂

  16. Ack! I’ve been waiting for Jesse Eisenberg to narrate some more audiobooks. You’ve made me so happy today.
