Shiver Summer

Confession: I have never read a book by Maggie Stiefvater. I know that makes me lose MAJOR YA reader street cred.

Shiver trilogy, maggie stiefvater, books, shiver summer

Shiver Summer

Luckily, I have the entire Shiver series at home. As we all know, summer is a time for accomplishing things and doing lots of reading. And if you are a lucky little bastard still in school, a time of VACATION. Alas, I am not in school but I think I can make some time in my summer to read all three Mercy Falls books.

Sidebar: The main reason I want to read these is because of Carla’s reaction to meeting Maggie. Clearly, her books have GOT to be good to get a reaction like that.

No longer will I be the kid at the lunch table with the banana  while everyone else is eating a Snack Pack. That’s right, I’m going to gain some YA street cred by reading these books!

You can join me in my quest for fitting in with everyone else and read the Shiver series over the summer too. I don’t have any hard and fast rules for this. Hell, you can even already be the snack pack kid and just re-read these books!

I plan on reading them all by July 30th the latest. But hopefully by the July 12 release date of Forever.

Ya’ll let’s begin Shiver Summer!

OH OH and FYI you can download the audiobook of Shiver legally for free from June 23-29 here: http://audiobooksync.com/

  1. You know how I generally feel about paranormal things, right? But I love this series like crazy. So that’s saying something. I hope you will enjoy it, too.
I also hope you will eat Snack Packs while you read it. The chocolate/vanilla swirl kind=extra delicious.

  2. I started this series. I read Shiver. I wasn’t thrilled but I’d like to continue!! I want to be ready for Forever too :o)
    Good luck!

  3. I adored Shiver, but decided to wait to read Linger until it was closer to Forever’s release date. If I have time I’ll join you. I’d love to re-read Shiver before finishing up the trilogy.
    Hope you enjoy them!

  4. I hated Sam’s narrator in Shiver! But they got a WAY better one for Linger. Way better! Also, Cole’s voice in Linger audiobook? Mm. mm. mm. As Maggie puts it, “It’s sex on a stick.”
But anyway..hope you love the series as much as we do!! 😀

  5. Thanks for the tip about the free audiobooks!

  6. I have Shiver sitting on my bookshelf at home but I still haven’t read it. Maybe I’ll dive through the whole series next month…

  7. I have to say I wasn’t too crazi about Shiver but I did buy Linger and will wait for Forever just to see how it goes, I tend to have to finish a series once I start it haha, but it’s def not the best I’ve read out there. Good luck w/your challenge, I’m sure you’ll make it haha =)

  8. I haven’t read anything by Maggie Stiefvater either, mainly because the premise of this series just doesn’t reach out and grab my attention like so many other books out there. *shrugs*
Although, I do hope that you will enjoy reading the whole series. 🙂

  9. I am shocked. Why do I talk to you? *turns head away in shame* At least you’re doing the Good Samaritan thing (probably misused that) and reading it now. Enjoy them!

  10. I’ll admit, I’ve suggested them to my students, bought them for my library, and never picked them up either! I think I’ll join you on this journey…July12th (or 30th) it is 😉

  11. I’m eating a banana too! Have never read these. I own the first two and I have Shiver on audiobook at home right now, so there are no excuses. May just have to celebrate Shiver Summer with you. I’ve heard nothing but good about this series – except for one small critique from my high school librarian of a mom who thinks the characters don’t use cell phones enough. Maybe that’s a good thing?

  12. I’ve never read this series either. I have Shiver checked out from the library right now. I think I’ll join up and play along. There’s safety and fun-times in numbers. 🙂

  13. Hmm… I want to read these as well….. consider me “signed up”, and I’ll see what I can do to finish by the end of July as well.

  14. I hope you love them like I love them, aka I think I actually hugged “Forever” after I got it. EEK!

  15. You’re not the only one who hasn’t read her books. Although, Shiver is next up, followed by the other two. Anyway … I wanted you to know you are NOT the only one who hadn’t jumped on this bandwagon!

(I haven’t read Twilight, or Percy Jackson, either, though.)

  16. i do need to reread the first two before the final one. and whatever you have tons and tons of YA street cred.

  17. How’s your Shiver Summer progressing? In honor of Forever’s release date, I borrowed Shiver and Linger from the library. I’m enjoying the imagery and poetic prose in Shiver so far. I was surprised to see that Shiver’s text is blue and Linger’s text is green. I’ve never seen a novel printed in any color besides black. Not having seen a hard copy of Forever, I wonder if the text is red or pink — that would surely be a strain on the eyes!
