I hate when I get a holiday off and expect to spend the whole day reading but instead end up fiddling with my blog layout and CSS all damn day. You guys. If my computer wasn’t so expensive — at least what I consider expensive (I had to save for a long time), I would have punched it in the face. It is SO frustrating when you are trying to change your site and are working with a whole new layout (Thesis 2) and it doesn’t do what you want. SO instead of reading all the books and writing all the reviews, I ended up playing with all the HTML. At least it was a great week mail-wise!

Unravel Me, Everbound, Boundless, Shadows In The Silence, the Madman's Daughter, Mortal Fire, Through The Ever Night

For Review:

The Center Of Everything by Linda Urban (Vine)  - Small town, donuts, Fred Rogers epigraph, middle grade, big print, short chapters OF FREAKIN COURSE I picked this book out from Vine like, immediately.

The Wrap-Up List by Steven Arntson  (Vine) – Straight up, I love books where Death plays a role.

Boundless by Cynthia Hand (Unsolicited) – I kind of screamed when I saw this book, because hello I want to know how the trilogy ends. I actually immediately started it the day that it arrived and that pretty much never ever happens here. I finished it last night and am filled with all the sighs.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Unsolicited) – Finally I get to see why so many of my friends are all Team Warner, because in the first book I’m like Team Warner Is A Psychopath I Don’t Give A Fig About His Upbringing.

Everbound by Brodi Ashton (Unsolicited) – Clearly, I need to read this book like very very soon.

Through The Ever Night by Veronica Rossi (Unsolicited) – Y’all, the letters on there are silver. SILVER. How cool is that?

The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd (Unsolicited) – Oh my god, the hardcover of this IS GORGEOUS you guys.

Shadows In The Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton (The End Is Near expert) x2 – I finished this book this week, and sigh. WHAT AN ENDING. Also, I have like a ton of copies of this, expect giveaways all over the place.

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne (Requested Review Copy) – SO you guys! I love that this came on Martin Luther King Jr. Day because the USPS is closed what with it being a national holiday and all. I felt pretty smug about getting mail, I won’t lie. Actually, REALLY smug. hahahaha. Anyways, I cannot wait to find out what happens with the kids. And fricken Astrid.

Shadow On The Sun by David Maccinnis Gill (Unsolicited) – Basically, the story sounds cool and it’s about this guy who is the prince of Mars. But you guys, the cover is totally ridiculous, like make fun of bad. I’m still going to read the piss out of this book though.

Mortal Fire by Elizabeth Knox (Requested Review Copy) – So, I actually own Dreamhunter and Dreamquake after purchasing in my pre-blogging days when someone on goodreads recommended them. I never did get around to reading them. Methinks I should remedy that this year. Anyways, the cover is bad ass. The spine is thick. It’s fantasy. Of course I cannot wait to read it.

The Eye Of The World: The Graphic Novel Volume 3 by Robert Jordan (Unsolicited) – I am just going to be 100% real with you and say I was actually psyched for this unsolicited book because I read the shit out of the Eye Of The World and Wheel Of Time in high school. I would have loved to be an Aes Sedai. Whatever. And I want to see what Rand, Mat, and Perrin look like. I only ever got to book three of Wheel of Time because my library never had all the books of the series, boo. ANYWAYS. I just added the first two of the graphic novel volumes to my wish list.

Kalimpura by Jay Lake (Unsolicited) – Okay, this book has a cool cover, but it’s the 3rd of a series, so I don’t know whether I want to commit yet or not. Alas.

Revenge Of The Girl With The Great Personality by Elizabeth Eulberg (Netgalley) – YES! Girls with awesome personalities shall inherit the earth.

The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spaulding (Netgalley) – AHHHH! I featured this book in one of my Top Ten Tuesday lists and holy crapola I cannot wait to read it. CANNOT WAIT.

Fuse by Julianna Baggott (Netgalley) – YESSSS! Time to see what is going on with Pressia and the guy whose name I forget. BUT PRESSIA WITH THE DOLL HEAD HAND. YES.  Lul. I love that you guys, blogger and reader friends put up with my weirdness.

The Moon And More by Sarah Dessen (Netgalley) – Oh you guys I couldn’t help my yelping after opening the approval email because my heart was all clenched like they were going to be like sorry bro you are rejected but instead it was like OH HEY YOU DOWNLOAD THIS FROM YOUR DASHBOARD. Hell yes.

Kindness For Weakness by Shawn Goodman (Netgalley) – This contemporary book sounded great and it seems like it’s kind of under the radar right now so I can’t wait to read it and put it on more people’s radars.

The Best Man by Kristan Higgins (Netgalley) – Oh frick yes. SO SO EXCITED for new Kristan Higgins.

Jerusalem: A Family Portrait by Boaz Yakin illustrated by Nick Bertozzi (Netgalley) – YESSS! More graphic novels forever and for always you guys.

Purchased:

Ten Cents A Dance by Christine Fletcher – I bought this on my Kindle for $1.99 and I’ve been very curious about this book for a very long time. When I happened to see it on sale for so cheap, I just had to snap up this historical fiction YA book published by Bloomsbury.

Violins Of Autumn by Amy McAuley – Another YA historical fiction that was $1.99. No thoughts about buy I just one-clicked.

11/22/63 by Stephen King – Okay, so this was $3.99 but I love the master of horror forever and always and promise to eventually read it.

Redwall by Brian Jacques – This noise was free on Kindle and although we own multiple copies of the Redwall series in physical form, I could resist having it on my Kindle forever and for always. You guys my heart will always be at Redwall Abbey. But also out on the Long Patrol. And with the badgers of Salmandastron. Also. Tony and I bonded over these books. BONDED.

Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood – ALSO free on Kindle. Heck yes. I reviewed this book like last year, but it‘s published by Harper Children’s and is about a magical bakery. So good.

A Dance With Darkness by Courtney Allison Moulton – Okay, so now that I’ve finished the Angelfire trilogy, I have separation anxiety and decided I need to own and read this novella.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I talked quite a bit about the cover of Playing For Keeps by RL Mathewson but ultimately decided I enjoyed the book, despite a few minor issues with it.

Boarding school, winter, doomed love and CDs are pretty much the reason that I loved the very literary debut The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan.

Unfortunately Allison did not love Girl Of Nightmares by Kendare Blake as much as Anna Dressed In Blood.

In which Allison PLEADS for more books with these TEN settings.

Remember that time I waved my arms around and was all GO READ The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman.

Or that other time I was all, you guys, UPS My Choice Changed My Life.

Is it just me or did last week seem to take FOREVER to get to the weekend? Seriously it felt like it just dragged and dragged. On the upside, it is a 3 day weekend and totally needed. ALSO! I re-upped my Hulu subscription and Tony and I basically watched almost all of season 5 of Parks And Recreation in one night. I am pretty sure I might have a girl crush on Amy Poehler. AND! Plenty of surprise goodies came in my mail and it was a week of happy victory laps around the house.

For Review:

Shadows In The Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton (for the End Is Near Experts thing) – So, I made a list at work yesterday of books I wanted to read on my weekend (only 4 books – The  Tragedy Paper which I finished, Revolution 19, What We Saw At Night and this) and of course this is the longest book on my January TBR and I started it and am actually zooming through it. As of writing, I am 142 pages in and am currently experiencing all of the feels. Be on the look out for my review, plus an interview plus GIVEAWAYS holla!

Siege And Storm by Leigh Bardugo (Solicited Review Copy) – Was there anyone who did NOT perform a happy dance over this shiny blue package this week? Seriously I am beyond pumped up to see what happens next. MAL ILY ILY FOR ALWAYS.

Templar by Jordan Mechner (Netgalley) – You guys I once wrote a 18 page paper about the Knights Templar during my freshman year of college because they are the shit. And so, when I saw that there was a graphic novel about the Templars on Netgalley I immediately requested. Obviously this is fiction. BUT THE FRONT BLURB IS FROM THE HBO SERIES CREATORS OF GAME OF THRONES. Also, this graphic novel is full color and 480 pages and I am going to read the hell out of it. And probably will end up ordering it for my collection.

Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong by Prudence Shen illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks (Netgalley) – I will always and forever request anything with Faith Erin Hicks name on it because omg Friends With Boys was awesome.

Notes From Ghost Town by Kate Ellison (Netgalley) – Maybe I am a bit of a failure because I haven’t yet read The Butterfly Clues, however, I loved this cover and the concept sounds intriguing to me.

Out Of Nowhere by Maria Padian (Netgalley) – Basically this book has to do with soccer and refugees and it sounds like a solid serious contemporary read. ALSO. It was a read-now book on Netgalley. So there’s that.

Crash by Nicole Williams (Unsolicited Review Copy) – I like the cover of Crash. Basically I guess it’s New Adult, with a beautiful douche. Whatever though I will read the heck out of it because you know I have a weakness for that stuff.

Clash by Nicole Williams (Unsolicited Review Copy) – The sequel to Crash. And again, I actually like the cover.

Impulse by Steven Gould (Unsolicited Review Copy) – I think this book is part of a series. I did like 7th Sigma but I’m not entirely sure if I want to invest my time in this series quite yet.

Arclight by Josin L. McQuein (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Basically the cover is bright and shiny and metallic. That’s pretty much all I know about this book so far.

Kiss Me Again by Rachel Vail (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Ahhh! So I tweeted Harper Teen and the author the other day asking if I needed to read the first book to understand this one and apparently I don’t and this is short, so I think I’ll be reading it in February. Yay!

Nobody But Us by Kristin Halbrook (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Second copy! Open mind though.

The Shadow Girl by Jennifer Archer (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Blurb mentions If I Stay and Before I Fall so sign me up, bro.

Fragments by Dan Wells (Unsolicited Review Copy) – Oh hells yes. I can’t wait to see what happens after Partials.

Dead Silence by Kimberly Derting (Unsolicited Review Copy) – I still need to read The Last Echo but I quite enjoyed The Body Finder, so I’ve got an open mind about this.

Taken by Erin Bowman (Unsolicited Review Copy) – The cover makes full use of Roy G. Biv, thus I am pumped up to read this.

Purchased:

The Fellowship Of The Ring by JRR Tolkien narrated by Rob Inglis – Yes, I totally bought this in that Audible sale. Why the heck not, even though I have a physical copy and have already read FotR.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo narrated by George Guidall – Another book purchased in the Audible sale. Heck yesssss. And yes, I do have a physical copy and have read this one before as well.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy narrated by Davina Porter – I bought this on Audible and oh my goodness you guys I only paid 95 cents for it. Like, it was on sale. But not a part of that most wished for sale. I was browsing my wishlist and it was like oh members pay 95 cents and I’m like as a resident cheap ass I should buy this because I will kick myself for spending a credit on it because I pay way more than 95 cents for credits. And that’s my thought process y’all.

Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey – I bought this for my Kindle while it was free in the Kindle store. Whatevs. Super excited for this book!

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I’m kind of surprised at the number of people who said they’d be willing to give The Marriage Bargain a shot after reading my review. Yay!

So, this might not have been the book for everyone, but I enjoyed Prophecy by Ellen Oh.

New year, new debuts. These ten are totally on my NEED TO READ pile.

Lisa Schroeder nails it in Falling For You and I resolve to read all of her books ever.

That one time I got to host the most amazing Gayle Forman on the blog and managed not to make an ass of myself.

So, my assessment of Splintered kind of proves that I am shallow. Why are you guys still friends with me, hahahaha.

Allison is all about Lovecraft Middle School and makes me want to read those books too. Also because I’m kind of a cover whore and those covers are SO COOL.

Want to check out Lovecraft Middle School for yourself? We’re giving them away. Also Allison conducts an interview!

Zombies! History! Steampunk! Subtle romance! Endless gushing for Something Strange And Deadly.

Allison has love for Level 2, because it’s an awesome book.

More romance books on the weekend! Today it’s To Love A Thief by Julie Anne Long.

The first full week back at work after a vacation is torture, but this week went by really fast. I think it’s due in part to Bout Of Books, I spent quite a bit of my free time with my nose in a book. PLUS! I ran for 30 minutes straight on the treadmill with no walking intervals and I just needed to share that with you all because I am very proud of it and it feels like if I don’t share something on here, it didn’t happen. ALSO! This was the week of surprising books in my mailbox. I honestly didn’t expect any of the books I got, well except for one and that’s because it’s from Amazon Vine.

Stacking The Shelves 16

For Review:

The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan (Vine) – I picked this book out because A) I’m going to the author’s signing in like 20 days and B) I saw Margot tweeting about and was like, hmmm that does indeed sound interesting. It’s about an albino who falls in love with a girl. OH and there’s a big paper the students at the prestigious academy have to write called a tragedy paper. Anyways, I plan on reading this within the week to come. It’s also only 304 pages with 32 chapters so I expect it to be a fast read.

The Wanderer by Robyn Carr (Unsolicited) – I LOLed a little bit at this book because I really disliked the first Robyn Carr book I ever read. But, hmm maybe I should keep my mind open and try. I don’t know. It’s not a priority.

Obsidian Mirror by Catherine Fisher (Unsolicited) – I absolutely love the cover of this book. I’ve really been interested in trying Fisher’s books for awhile, I recently bought her whole Relic Master series and also own Incarceron, so it’s a given that I will read Obsidian Mirror. It’s a trilogy about a mirror and it has magic powers. Three people have been given tasks pertaining to the mirror that are at odds with each other. Only one person can succeed. Color me PUMPED.

Darius & Twig by Walter Dean Myers (Unsolicited) – I’m actually really excited about this book. I love the cover and I’ve reviewed like…6 Walter Dean Myers books so far. Plus this is going to be a quick read — it’s only 201 pages so it actually fits perfectly in my schedule.

Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike (Unsolicited) – So, I’ve heard awful things about the Wings books, but I think I have book one on my kindle someplace. Anyways, I am kind of shallow and like this cover and it’s blurbed as Paranormalcy meets Heist Society, so why the heck not read it with an open mind.

The Ward by Jordana Frankel (Unsolicited) – Oh goodness that cover you guys. I like it because it’s got like the NYC skyline on the edge of a waterfall. Also, the main character is a drag racer, much like me when I drive home from work. CANNOT WAIT y’all.

The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise (Unsolicited) - The Boyfriend App looks adorable, I cannot even. Plus the main character is a hacker. Awesome.

Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris (Unsolicited) – This is a sign that I need to read Unraveling like next week because this is the sequel and I’m curious.

The Elite by Kiera Cass (Unsolicited) – I am still kind of on the fence about whether I want to read The Selection or not, but I figure, I like reality TV and dating shows so I’ll probably check it out.

The Silver Dream by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves (Unsolicited) – I haven’t read book one, Interworld, but it’s Neil Gaiman so I am pretty sure this means I need to purchase Interworld stat.

How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer (Unsolicited) – Ahh. I am actually pumped up about this book. I love the cover. And honestly this is odd to say, but I like how Harper is branding Strohmeyer’s books with the long title, the specific font and the girl on the cover. I am definitely going to read this AND Smart Girls Get What They Want in 2013. Promise.

Rise by Anna Carey (Unsolicited) – This is the third in the Eve trilogy and I actually still need to read the first two books. I’ll get to them eventually.

The Rising by Kelley Armstrong (Unsolicited) – It’s going to take everything within me to not drop my entire TBR pile plan for January and read this book because omg you guys Kelley Armstrong writes cracktastic books and it’s the last one in the Darkness Rising trilogy and omg, I can’t wait because I inhaled the first trilogy – the Darkest Powers and then I went on to inhale this one — Darkness Rising. And just ahhh, excuse me while I jabber away.

A Touch Of Scarlet by Eve Marie Mont (Unsolicited) – EEEEEEK! SO EXCITED! I fricken loved A Breath Of Eyre and this is the sequel and I can’t wait to see what’s up with Emma and straight up I actually enjoyed reading The Scarlet Letter in high school because I am a huge fricken nerd. This was like the best part of walking out to my mailbox today.

The Starboard Sea by Amber Dermont (Unsolicited) – I actually got the hardcover version of this and now I have a paperback so I assume that means I should read this book, especially because it’s about college in the 1980s and I love college always and forever.

In The Shadow Of Blackbirds by Cat Winters (Netgalley) – I originally saw this on The Book Smugglers and then this morning Kara at Great Imaginations had it in her Stacking The Shelves and so omg I hoped on Netgalley and used my autoapproval status like a total G and downloaded this so it can live on my kindle and omg omg omg it’s about Spanish Influenza and I LOVE DISEASES AND VIRUSES FOREVERRRRRR.

Purchased:

Hopeless by Colleen Hoover – For Kindle – Basically Shanyn said BUY THIS and I said ok. And now it’s sitting there. I’ll read it probably in February though.

Fierce Reads Anthology 1 and 2 – for Kindle – For a short time these are free I think and they contain short stories that are spin offs of the Fierce Reads books. I plan on reading the heck out of them.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

Pretty much dragons are the shit and I loved this book about dragons aimed at children.

I wrote lots of words explaining my love of The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver and decided that if she wrote a phone book, I’d read it.

Want to read Cinder? Check this post out for the 411 on one of the major characters from Scarlet and your chance to win Cinder.

Allison speaks truth when she says we all want to be Kitty Kelley when we grow up.

Allison adds some interesting words to Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans for the Bout Of Books Day 3 Challenge.

I find a lot of reading GIFs and explain how time management works.

That one time I was super awkward and funny and lose my shit over a map shaped like a dragon in a video.

OH MY GAWD! I was shipping these two characters the whole damn time because I might as well be a perv or something.

Sometimes I get books in the mail that make me LOL unintentionally and this time I am giving them away!

The End Is Here and check out this cute Quoted And Noted.

This audiobook made me yawn a lot.

In which Allison and I throw our hats in the ring for Bout Of Books 6.0.

Whoa, I actually enjoyed a 99 cent self published new adult ebook A LOT. STOP THE PRESSES.

Ahhh you guys it’s been three weeks since I’ve done a book haul sort of post. Turns out my vacation was filled with more social/leave the house/interact with other people events than I had anticipated. I mean, it was nice to have all that time off but at the same time, I would have liked something a little more chill. So, this weekend I am being a hermit and shutting out the world to relax and do blog things like catch up on reviews and also brain storm things to write discussion/opinion posts about. OH OH and I plan on finishing The Cadet Of Tildor by Alex Lidell and the audiobook of Reached by Ally Condie! OH OH and I want to start Pink Smog by Francesca Lia Block because it’s under 200 pages AND Epic Reads is reading it for the January Book Club. What are you currently reading or looking forward to reading? Tell me in the comments!

In My Mailbox January 5 2012

For Review:

Scent Of Magic by Maria V. Snyder (Vine) -I chose this because let’s be real, it’s Maria V. Snyder I could not resist at all. And thank goodness Touch Of Power was on sale like a few days after I picked it out. It’s nice when the universe works like that.

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World event) – I’ve read and loved this and of course will be giving this copy away.

Wings Of The Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World Event) – I have also loved this book and will be giving my copy away.

Shadows In The Silence by Courtney Allison Moulton (End Of The World Event) – LOL this book came as a manuscript and because I have a jerk streak, I laughed a little bit because I have a nice ARC of this and the manuscript is so big and bulky. Anyways, this will be given away as well as I read my ARC which I will ALSO giveaway. I feel like Oprah only I’m not giving people cars.

The Fire Horse Girl by Kay Honeyman (Unsolicited) – I finished reading this last night and utterly LOVED it and cannot wait to write up the review. Add this book to your TBR, it’s fantastic and could use more attention.

Luck Of The Draw by Piers Anthony (Unsolicited) – Yeah, this randomly showed up and while I think the cover is cool, I’m kind of low on time with a big TBR so I think I could find someone to take it off my hands.

One Direction: A Year With One Direction and One Direction: Behind The Scenes (Unsolicited) – LOLOLOLOL I just chase Tony around the house with these making kissy noises at him. So, they’ve served a purpose. I’ll have to put together a giveaway or something.

100% Official Justin Bieber Just Getting Started  (Unsolicited) – AHAHAHAHAHA my second copy of this. Again, expect me to do a giveaway, maybe Sunday. I mean, I am sure some of you have kids or patrons or family who would want these books.

Heart Of Steel by Jennifer Probst (Accepted Review Copy) – I read The Marriage Bargain on my vacation and actually quite liked it so when I was received a copy of this in a email, of course I accepted.

Strands Of Bronze And Gold by Jane Nickerson (Netgalley) – I was originally rejected for this, but then it was back on Netgalley and I’m like if at first you don’t succeed… and OMG THEY APPROVED ME and I cannot wait to read this retelling of Bluebeard.

Return To Me by Justina Chen Headley (Netgalley) – I am a sucker for Contemporary books with pretty covers.

Catherine by April Lindner (Netgalley) – This is a retelling of Wuthering Heights which I have not yet read, but I just loved Jane so I instantly snapped this one up. I’m hoping to read it within the next two weeks.

Etiquette And Espionage by Gail Carriger (Netgalley) – Lots of my friends like this author and it’s YA and I was like why the heck not.

A Spear Of Summer Grass by Deanna Raybourn (Netgalley) – HELL YES! I am so freakin psyched about this book. Africa and flappers bring it on y’all.

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren (Netgalley) – Um, pleasure reading? LOL. Whatever, the email convinced me and I like what I’ve read from Gallery Books. No hating here y’all.

Yours At Midnight by Robin Bielman (Accepted Review Copy) – I just read one book from Entangled and when one of my friends who happens to be a publicist offered this, I was like YES PLEASE I LOVE ROMANCE. And I’m starting to really like Entangled’s romance books.

Purchased:

Snowed Over by Angie Stanton – I bought this for my Kindle because I am pretty sure Ginger recommended it and when she recommends something I purchase it if the price is right. I’ve already read Snowed Over, I thought it was adorable and quick but not exactly the best book I’ve ever read.

All I Want For Christmas by Ros Clarke – I also bought this novella because Ginger told me too. You guys, I am just going to blame her for being so broke. That stated, I really enjoyed All I Want For Christmas and it helped put me in a festive sort of mood.

A Christmas Bride by Susan Mallory – Basically purchased this because Christmas was in the title. I haven’t read it yet and have decided to save it for December 2013. I know, that’s a long way off.

Within Reach by Sarah Mayberry – This was a Kindle Daily Deal and a few bloggers I know seem to really love Sarah Mayberry the book was like $1.99 I can’t regret that price.

Touch Of Power by Maria V. Snyder – Another book that I’ve had on my wishlist FOREVER and it was a daily deal so there was no question with buying it. I’ve already read this — it was my first book read in 2013.

All He Ever Needed by Shannon Stacey – Yes, I totally bought this one too, but I liked Mistletoe & Margaritas, so I thought it might be a good idea to try one of her full length books.

A Visit From Sir Nicholas by Victoria Alexander – Another Christmas themed Kindle book that I don’t plan on reading for another 11 months. Stocking up now while they’re cheap.

Forbidden by Syrie James and Ryan James – I’ve had this as an ARC forever and felt guilty. So then I bought for my kindle it while on sale so I wouldn’t feel guilty about not having gotten to it yet. Plus I got to give the ARC to one of my friends.

Eve by Anna Carey – Pretty much the same thing, I bought this for my Kindle so I could stop feeling guilty about the unread ARC.

Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally – Basically this was like $5 and I bought it and then it was on sale like 4 days later for $0.99 and I was like damn it. But then I was like, whatever small price to pay to support an author all my blogger friends love.

The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston – Again, this has been on my wishlist forever and it was on sale for pretty cheap for Kindle, so I bought it without a question.

The Coincidence Of Callie And Kayden by Jessica Sorensen – This was like number 2 on the Kindle 100 and 99 cents and I think it’s going to get picked up by a bigger publisher because it seems all the top selling books do. ANYWAYS! I have read this already and actually really enjoyed it.

The Great Influenza by John Barry read by Scott Brick – Purchased on Audible with a credit because I am obsessed with reading about diseases in fiction, so I’d like to read non-fiction about diseases as well. Plus, I like Scott Brick as a narrator.

Masters Of Doom by David Kushner narrated by Wil Wheaton – Also purchased on Audible with a credit because I’m in the mood for more non-fiction ALSO Wil Wheaton narrates so yeah this was a no-brainer purchase.

Gifted:

Playing Hurt by Holly Schindler – My mom learned how to gift Kindle books for Christmas and this was my digital stocking stuffer. Yay!

Kindle Fire HD 7″ - From Tony! Hurrah! Granted, I ended up spending 19 hours playing Bejweled 2 with this instead of reading, but it’s freakin awesome. I love reading books on it, especially because I don’t have to turn on the additional lamp. I will say, I wish the battery was better. But yay!

Magical Mayhem edited by Douglas Rees and Laurie McLeangifted from Pam at Bookalicious – So, I was shocked when Pam gifted this book to me, because I had planned on buying myself a copy because I got to be one of the bloggers to do an intro for this book. Anyways, it was a very pleasant Christmas present and I am so grateful to Pam. <3

Won:

What’s Left Of Me by Kat Zhang from Epic Reads Tea Time – Yayyyy! I am so excited to have a finished copy of this book, guess that means I need to read it by the end of the month.

Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon from Epic Reads Tea Time – I laughed when I got this because I am totally going to hell. This was my 5th copy and so I’m like okay FINE I WILL READ IT. And I did, I read it during my overtime shift and it was decent. Not the best I’ve read, but definitely not the worst. I don’t have the book at all pictured because I passed it on to my friend Carolyn. My review should be up soon though.

Last week was pretty much my lucky/work ideal sort of week, I had to guest speak in some classes and of course between the classes there are about 3 hours which yes, I could go back to the office for an hour but it’s definitely not worth it, SO I basically got 3 hours each day of paid reading time and lol I whipped through 6 books last week. Isn’t that awesome? I have one more day of this, on Monday and then an easy sort of week to catch up on office things before my vacation which is 10 whole days of bliss! Family and friends and books and presents, legit I cannot wait. OH OH and I have been working out every single day — either running or doing videos on youtube (search Blogilates, you won’t regret it). So, that’s my week in a nutshell. How did your week go? I’d love to know in the comments.

Books, The Diviners, Les Miserables

For Review:

Taking Chances by Molly McAdams (Edelweiss) – You guys! I used Edelweiss for the first time. Granted, this was one of those widgets that the publisher emails you and you are automatically accepted. Anyways, the pitch was all ‘Molly McAdams is an awesome New Adult voice’ and I’m like frick yeah NEW ADULT BOOKS GIVE THEM ALL TO ME and so I bit the bullet and learned Edelweiss. I’m thinking about starting Taking Chances this week because after The Sea Of Tranquility, I’m jonesing for more of these sorts of books.

Lies That Bind by Lisa and Laura Roecker (Netgalley) – So, I was on the vlog tour for this book but tragedy, I haven’t read it yet. BUT THEN MAGICALLY my Netgalley request FINALLY went through and was approved, so yay! Yay approved book. I do plan on reading this book like maybe today while I’m on the exercise bike.

The Believing Game by Eireann Corrigan (Unsolicited) – I’ve read one book by Eireann Corrigan, You Remind Me Of You in my pre-blogging days I think. I didn’t really love it, but The Believing Game sounds totally legit and kind of scary which I am occasionally in the mood for, so I’ll definitely be reading this one.

Angelfire and Wings of The Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton (SECRET PROJECT) – Okay, I’ve read both of these and loved both and there’s a secret THING coming up and MY LIPS ARE SEALED SO DON’T ASK BECAUSE I WON’T TELL UNTIL IT IS THAT TIME. <3

Garden Princess by Kristin Kladstrup (Requested Review Copy) – HECK YES HORTICULTURAL MIDDLE GRADE MAGIC. I will always, always say yes to fantasies that involve gardening even though I have no patience for planting things myself.

Yaqui Delgado Wants To Kick Your Ass by Meg Medina (Requested Review Copy) – Contemporary book about bullying and identity? Sign me up.

Jane Austen Goes To Hollywood by Abby McDonald (Requested Review Copy) – A contemporary version of Sense And Sensibility by the author of Boys, Bears And A Serious Pair Of Hiking Boots, I am in.

Out Of This Place by Emma Cameron (Requested Review Copy) – This is one of those magical Australian contemporary books that’s written in verse with alternating POVs, so pretty much I love it based on principle. I cannot wait to read the heck out of this book.

Plague In The Mirror by Deborah Noyes (Requested Review Copy) – So the premise is this girl goes back in time because she has a doppelganger and AHHH there’s the Black Death and with my obsession I NEEDED THIS BOOK.

Zebra Forest by Adina Rishe Gewirtz (Requested Review Copy) – This is a middle grade that has to do with family secrets and lies and hostages, and it’s a debut and I love the cover plus, it’s Candlewick so you know it’s going to be good stylistically.

Personal Effects by EM Kokie audiobook (SURPRISE COPY) – Okay, so the wonderful amazing, super awesome publicist threw this in the box because she’s like I think you’ll like this audiobook and I’m like EEEEP when I opened it because it is narrated by Nick Podehl and he is the best EVER and OH MY GOD I will listen to this as soon as I finish listening to reached and I just got really super excited you guys. PLUS Kelly at Stacked recommended this on Twitter like a few days ago and I only remember because I starred her tweet of recommendations hahaha.

Purchased:

From Ashes by Molly McAdams – I got the press release and this was only like $2.99 on Kindle which is not a lot to pay for guilt-free reading that is not time sensitive. PLUS YAY NEW ADULT!

Genesis by Bernard Beckett – Short Kindle dystopia, and it was a daily deal. There was zero thought on my end before purchasing.

Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer – Another Kindle Daily Deal, plus I get that some of this book is problematic, but honestly when I see cheap Heyer, I snap it up on principle.

The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout (Audible) – Well, there’s a few reasons why I got this but I won’t delve into them. Suffice to say, I had an audible gift card for $10 and this has been on my wishlist for a long time and I only paid $0.91 for it.

The Adventure Of The Blue Carbuncle by Arthur Conan Doyle (Audible) – This was free on Audible a few days ago.

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond – Already read this! Signed copy, woot woot!

The Diviners by Libba Bray – Read this as well! Plus, yay my copy is signed and awesome.

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead – Not signed, but I haven’t read this yet but I did fall in love with Liar & Spy, and so I was like i need this as a reward to myself for being awesome.

Gifted:

From Amy at Tripping Books:

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo – When I went to check my mailbox the other day I was not expecting a package at all, but this envelope package from Amy was sitting there and I’m like whatever could this be? So then I go back inside where it’s warm and my TV is blaring and I rip open the envelop and there’s this beautiful card which is hanging on our card wall, and a note from Amy saying she couldn’t resist picking this up because she thought of me and I teared up a little bit with gratitude because I’m very, very fortunate to have such amazing blogger friends who know my favorite books ever. It was probably the nicest surprise I’ve gotten in months. Thank you, Amy. Your friendship means so much to me!

From Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit:

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson – So, Shanyn has been one of my best blogger friends since practically the beginning and I cannot imagine a day when I do not talk to Shanyn. We’ve even taken part in this 30 Day Fitness Challenge together and it’s going pretty awesome. ANYWAYS, we got to talking about Amazon wish lists and she’s like send it to me and I’m like um okayyyy. And then she’s like you really haven’t read Second Chance Summer? FOR REAL? And I’m like yes for real I haven’t read it. And then she goes that was easy. And then 3 seconds later there is this email from Amazon saying I have a gift and of course I misted a little bit behind my computer screen because again, I’m lucky to have the greatest friends ever.

From the Oblong Books signing:

Yellowcake by Margo Lanagan – I’ve been wanting to read Lanagan forever and this book at 215 pages seems rather non-threatening. So yay!

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

I lamented the lack of Ancient setting historical fiction in my gushing review of the Cleopatra’s Moon audiobook.

Live Through This by Mindi Scott profoundly affected me and I highly recommend it.

Swoons delivered just in time for the holidays! Check out Kissing Under The Mistletoe by Marina Adair.

Allison recounts her top ten new-to-me authors of 2012!

So many awesome new books coming out! Allison is waiting on Fat Angie.

If you weren’t planning on reading Code Name Verity, maybe Allison’s review will convince you otherwise.

That one time I was like UGH GUYS I NEED TO READ MORE SEQUELS in my review of Because It Is My Blood by Gabrielle Zevin (sidebar: I would like more comments please!!).

I wish I had a lot to say about last week, but alas it was pretty average. Oh wait I accomplished some things! I finished a super long audiobook that’s been in my Audible queue forever AND I also finished Wings Of The Wicked which is over 500 pages. So yes, I feel like my week went on a pretty high note. Plus! Today  I’m going to a signing for Libba Bray and Gwenda Bond with co-blogger Allison. Are you doing anything bookish this week?

For Review:

Ash by James Herbert (Unsolicited) – Well, the cover is a bit cheesy, but the back blurbs have comparisons to Stephen King and so I think I’ll save this one for when I am snowed in because I do love to be creeped out when it’s cold outside.

17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma (Unsolicited) – Friends! This book is signed. I opened it up there was a little letter saying the book has been signed by the author and I’m like nahhhh, it’s probably a stamp. BUT IT IS REALLY AUTOGRAPHED! And I got a little too excited over that. Also I legitimately cannot wait to read 17 & Gone, I liked Imaginary Girls for the most part, so I’m curious about this one.

Pulse by Patrick Carman (Unsolicited) – AHHHH! I was glad for this book because I really enjoyed the previous 2 Patrick Carman books that I’ve read. ALSO. I have 2 other unread books by Patrick Carman in my house so perhaps I will have a mini author readathon soon.

Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt (Netgalley) – You guys, I freakin loved Sean Griswold’s Head so when I saw this was on Netgalley there was no thought before clicking request. I am so excited and might make this my next bike read after I finish up The Different Girl.

White Horse by Alex Adams (Netgalley) – I am not entirely sure what this is about except that it’s compared to Justin Cronin and Stephen King thus my attention was instantly there.

Purchased:

Through A Glass Darkly by Karleen Koen (Kindle) – Pretty much I bought this because the book takes up so much shelf space real estate and I figure if it is safely on my Kindle, then I can put the big huge box in a box in the garage until we move and I can have the built in shelves of my dreams. Plus, this noise was only $2.99.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

Have money left over after buying presents? Check out these Kindle Books For Under $5.

It’s hard for me to convey how much I loved DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT but I made a valiant attempt.

Unfortunately, I was not entirely won over by USES FOR BOYS.

In which Allison and April let Santa know what’s on their lists!

We’re 2 for 2 with CARNIVAL OF SOULS — Allison writes her review and turns out she loved it too!

Want a shiny ARC of Just One Day and a paperback of Where She Went? Check out our contest!

If you love reading about tragedy, you’ll probably love THE WATCH THAT ENDS THE NIGHT a unique verse book about the Titanic and the passengers aboard.

Allison makes a good life choice and reads THE AVIARY.

Remember that 28 hour audiobook? I reviewed it, A DISTANT MIRROR here.

In which I admit to loving cheesy Christmas romances and am fine with that in my review of CALL ME MRS. MIRACLE.

Finally, I got to be a guest blogger for Smugglivus, so check it out — I’ve recommend 5 awesome under the radar reads!

What a whirlwind week! I got so much kindle reading and exercising done that the week went by in a blur. Also, can you believe that it’s December all ready and practically the end of 2012? I know I can’t. Anyways, while it was mostly a quiet week as far as packages go, one package totally caused me to lose my shit in the best possible way. I mean, I opened it and was uttering curse words of joy — as counterintuitive as that sounds. How about you? How was your week? You can let me know in the comments!

Christmas On Mimosa Lane, Nook, Reached, The Winter Witch

For Review:

Reached by Ally Condie audiobook (unsolicited) – Y’all, I’m honestly kind of glad this showed up as an unsolicited audiobook because it’s going to make reading Reached a much higher and easier to achieve priority. ALSO I am so excited to see how the trilogy finally plays out.

Christmas On Mimosa Lane by Anna DeStefano (Vine) – I basically chose this because the words Christmas and Mimosa were in the title. Because this is a Christmas book, you can actually expect a review of it pretty darn soon.

The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston (Vine) -Yo. Witches. Also. Wales. I am beyond pumped up about this historical fantasy and it’s gorgeous cover!

The Sea Of Tranquility by Katja Millay (Netgalley) – So, I requested this based on Allison at The Allure Of Books’ glowing recommendation, because I know her taste and find that it freakishly aligns with mine. Y’all, as soon as I finished up my other kindle read, I snapped this one open while on my bike Friday and pretty much did not stop reading it until I finished it at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday. It was completely gripping and has helped my mini slump. I then proceeded to tweet my love of this book from the rooftops. It is SO good. Like, get on Netgalley and request it or buy it for your ereader. SOMETHING. Because OHHHH MY GAWD IT IS AMAZING.

Shadowlands by Kate Brian (Netgalley) – I won’t lie, when the publisher of the book approved me for Shadowlands I was tickled pink. I’m pumped up to read this book about a girl who is in witness protection program because she like was attacked by a serial killer, but she fought back and the serial killer escaped. Fricken HECK YES! I mean, who did not love that movie about Mary Kate and Ashley where kind of the same thing happened only it was the mob and they witnessed something so they go to Australia and hang out on a boat. Yeah, that movie was the bomb. So I have a special place in my heart for books that have the witness protection program.

NOOK with Breathless by Sophie Jordan, Radiant by Cynthia Hand, Stupid Perfect World by Scott Westerfeld, Cruisin’ by Sarah Mlynowski (Unsolicited) – You guys, okay here’s the story. I was teaching ALL day Wednesday in an area with no service on my cell phone, which was fine because when the teacher I was guest speaking in had planning periods or gym class I would hang out in the teacher’s lounge and read my kindle. Anyways, after an hour long drive heading back home I roll up into my drive way where there are two packages and a box on my porch. The box was dresses from modcloth. So anyways, I open the package with the Nook in it and I’m like oh wow this is cool they put a book in a gray box, I wonder what book it is. THEN I open up the box and I yell out loud HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Luckily no one was home to hear me and I think my elderly neighbor went back to Florida. I then might have proceeded to utter a few more swears. But yeah, you guys, I was SO excited! So anyways, the point of the Nook is to promote Harper’s new line called HarperTeen Impulse which is a digital imprint that is specifically focused on short stories and novellas. As a lady who is pressed for time lately, I am pumped the heck up about this new imprint. I could not be more excited!

Purchased:

Lizzy Bright And The Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt (Kindle) – Yo this was a Kindle Daily deal and like, I already had a physical beat up used library discard copy of Lizzy Bright And The Buckminster Boy and so, I just figured for that price, I will replace my yucky copy and clear more space from my bookshelves.

The Survivors by Amanda Havard (Kindle) – So, this book was $0.99 and I really like the author as a person and have subscribed to like one of her playlists on Spotify. Anyways, I was supposed to review this like a long time ago but then never got around to it and I still feel awful and so whatever, I impulse purchased this and hope to really enjoy it and I think my boyfriend will like this book too.

Blackout by Connie Willis (Audible) – This was in the 2 for 1 sale and y’all the narrator is Katherine Kellgren, so hello insta-listen!

The Prince Of Tides by Pat Conroy (Audible) – I think this book is one of those highly recommended first listens. Anyways, I have a copy of this in physical form but because it’s long I have no idea when I’ll get to it and audio is just much, much more convenient for my life. Also, this was part of the 2 for 1.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

If you’re looking for another solid read set in the 1920s, might I recommend SIRENS by Janet Fox?

Maybe you are low on your numbers for the Goodreads 2012 Reading Challenge? Colin Fischer by Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz is a very quick listen and actually good and will help you to boost that number!

Y’all, 2013 will be upon us soon. THESE ARE THE BOOKS YOU NEED on your 2013 TBR!

Remember that time it took me forever to FINALLY read Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi? And then I kicked myself for waiting SO long!

Finally, I revive Quoted And Noted and spark a Twitter discussion about re-reading Graceling and Fire with this quote from Fire by Kristin Cashore.

Do you ever feel like sometimes you waste your time off? Like, I’ve had 5 days in a row off and I could have squeezed in some blogging and gotten caught up on reviews and maybe finished another book, but instead I ended up on the Pinterest and going out of the house for LOTS of things! I feel really bad because this would have been a great time to FINALLY catch up, but I’ve kind of squandered it. ALTHOUGH, on the other hand, I’ve gotten in at least an hour and a half of working out each day, so yay me, health is kind of really important. OH and my Thanksgiving was pretty decent. How was yours? I’d love to hear in the comments.

For Review:

Falling For You by Lisa Schroeder (Unsolicited) – This contemporary sounds right up my alley in that I actively seek out contemporaries about protagonists who have experienced abuse because it relates to my job and I can always throw a review of one of these books in my work newsletter.

The Murmurings by Cary Ann West (Unsolicited) - The Murmurings is about a teenage girl who begins to hear the voices that drove her sister to suicide. It sounds like creep city. I cannot wait!

The Program by Suzanne Young (Unsolicited) – In this book, suicide is an epidemic and if you cry you end up in the program where they wipe your memories. The concept is so cool, I can’t wait to see how this book plays out.

The Lucky Ones by Anna Godbersen (Unsolicited) – This is the third book in the Bright Young Things series, but alas I have not read any of those books. No worries though, book 1 is on my kindle and rumor has it that it is cracktastic.

The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver (Vine) – I picked this book out because everything I’ve read by Lauren Oliver, I’ve loved so I am hoping I love this book too.

Purchased:

Lovely, Dark And Deep by Amy Mcnamara – I read Allison at The Allure Of Books‘ review and I knew I needed to have this book in my life and I immediately impulse ordered it.

Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool (Audible) – Heidi at Bunbury In The Stacks wrote a great review of the audiobook with a list of the elements within Moon Over Manifest that rock and I like all of those elements so I immediately dropped a credit on this one.

Between by Jessica Warman (Kindle) – This was a daily deal and lol since I had an unread ARC taking up space I was like, $2 is not a lot to pay to regain that space.

Holiday In Stone Creek by Linda Lael Miller  (Kindle) – CHRISTMAS BOOKS ARE HERE! Also, this was $1.24. HECK YES.

Dangerous Voices by Rae Carson (Kindle) – A short story by Rae Carson? Free? BOOM IMPULSE CLICKED.

Heart Of A Hunter by Lara Adrian (Kindle) – Another freebie, but it’s romantic fantasy and won a Romantic Times award.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:

This book has not gotten enough attention, and so I finally set out and review Adios, Nirvana a YA contemporary book about a boy dealing with grief, among other things.

Y’all, I had HIGH hopes for this book, but alas was totally let down by Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes.

Hurrah for Thanksgiving! Allison and I get our thanks on.

In which I am not very overly enthusiastic about Black City by Elizabeth Richards.

AND another middle grade book, that I would love to see more reviews for: The Voyage of Lucy P. Simmons by Barbara Mariconda!

Finally, Allison makes an appearance on WORD For Teens with a guest post called The Stigma Of Mental Health Disorders And YA Books.

It’s been a decent two weeks, my friends (that’s how long it’s been since my last book haul post). I’ve had to do presentations, voted, finished teaching a class, and went to a wedding. Not to mention, going to an awesome signing/book launch and a giant warehouse sale. My life truly has been filled to the brim with books lately and I cannot complain.

Purchased:

Touching The Surface by Kimberly Sabatini (2 copies, both signed) – I went to Kim Sabatini’s launch party with Allison on November 4th. I’m really excited to read this book, especially after hearing Kim talk about her inspirations for it.

The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta – I saw this for under $10 and so because it’s by the wonderful and AMAZING Melina Marchetta, I bought it, no questions asked.

Everybody Sees The Ants by AS King – After reading Ask The Passengers, I was 100% sure I need to read the rest of AS King’s books.

Please Ignore Vera Dietz by AS King – YAY ANOTHER AS KING BOOK TO LIVE ON MY SHELVES!

Funerals For Horses by Catherine Ryan Hyde (Kindle) – This was free and I liked Jumpstart The World, so I snatched it up.

Good Girls Don’t by Victoria Dahl (Kindle) – At the time of purchase, this contemporary adult romance was $1.99 and I’d been curious about it. It seems kind of cute. It’s still cheap though, at 4.99 now.

Marian’s Christmas Wish by Carla Kelly (Kindle) – I’m sort of on a Christmas kick and Allison at The Allure Of Books pointed this out, so I immediately bought it.

Call Me Mrs. Miracle by Debbie Macomber (Kindle) – This was $1.24 when I bought it and you guys I read it last weekend and OMG LOVED IT, it was perfectly cheesy and wonderful and just what I was looking for.

Fatal Affair by Marie Force (Kindle) – I do not even know what this is about except that it is a romance and it was free when I got it. OH and it looks like it is still free today. AND it is published by Carina Press, so you know there will be sexy times.

Fatal Destiny by Marie Force (Kindle) – Another free book, this one is a novella.

The Six Crowns: Trundle’s Quest by Allan Jones (Kindle) – Pam (@bookaliciouspam) was talking about this book on Twitter and I was curious. Then I saw it was pubbed by Greenwillow and only $3.79 for Kindle, so I impulse purchased it.

For Review:

The 39 Deaths Of Adam Strand by Gregory Galloway (Unsolicited) – So, this book is about a guy who commits suicide 39 times, but he doesn’t stay dead. The concept is incredibly intriguing to me and I can’t wait to dive into this one.

Diverse Energies edited by Tobias S. Buckell and Joe Monti (Unsolicited) – I love short stories and this book contains short stories by some great writers — Paolo Bacigalupi and Ursula K. Le Guin among others and I’m pretty sure the stories focus on diverse characters as well. So YAY! cannot wait to dive into this.

Out Of The Easy by Ruta Sepetys (Unsolicited) – My jaw pretty much dropped over this package, especially because I loved Between Shades Of Gray soooo much and am super excited to read her sophomore novel.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman (Unsolicited) – So, apparently I guess I did not need that JUST ONE DAY prize I got at Oblong Books, because this magically showed up on my doorstop on Friday. Guess that means while my sister and blogger friends are borrowing one copy, this one can go up in a contest. Would you guys enter to win JUST ONE DAY? (and I’ll throw in WHERE SHE WENT)

River Road by Suzanne Johnson (Unsolicited) – I went to check the mailbox today on a whim and this was sitting there waiting for me, so yay mail on Sunday! Also, I have the first book, unread. Looks like I’ll need to get to it soon.

Orleans by Sherri L. Smith (Unsolicited) -Tribes based on blood type? Diseases? UM HELLO YES I WILL READ THIS.

The Art Of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar (Unsolicited) – DUDE there is a Tamora Pierce blurb on the back cover and FYI her blurbs are legit, like I have never ever been steered wrong by one of her blurbs.

OCD, The Dude, and Me by Lauren Roedy Vaughn (Unsolicited) – Oh goodness, a reference to the Big Lebowski? Contemporary? Journal bits? My heart just exploded from excitement!

The 13th Sign by Kristin O’Donnell Tubb (Requested Review Copy) – Ugh that cover, hello gorgeous. The concept of this is that there’s a 13th zodiac sign and it changes EVERYTHING. AWW YEAH.

Ghost Planet by Sharon Lynn Fisher (Unsolciited) – I have no idea what this is about, apparently it is the book’s first time in print. OH and the main character has been reincarnated as a ghost and there’s an Irish love interest? Ok book, I will take a gamble on you.

Kissing Under The Mistletoe by Marina Adair (Vine) – I picked this book out because I am on SUCH a Christmas kick and I can’t resist a contemporary romance about Christmas.

Flowers In The Sky by Lynn Joseph (Unsolicited) – I am very, very excited about this book because it’s about a girl who moves from the Dominican Republic to NYC for a better life. I love contemporary books and this one features a main character who is of color, so YAY! YAY DIVERSITY!

Requiem by Lauren Oliver (Unsolicited) – The OMG heard ’round the world, y’all.

Spellcaster by Claudia Gray (Unsolicited) – I kind of like the cover and I liked Fateful, and yo, witches.

Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza (Unsolicited) – A thriller about an android girl? HELLO SIGN ME UP.

Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley (Unsolicited) -Okay, this is about a girl who was kidnapped as a young teen, so it sounds fantastic in that it will heart my heart. I cannot wait to read this.

Imposter by Jill Hathaway (Unsolicited) – Apparently this is the sequel to Slide which I have not read, so we shall see when I get to Imposter.

Period 8 by Chris Crutcher (Unsolicited) – Yes, I am pumped up about this because it’s got a psychopath, thus you know it’s going to be THRILLING.

Wasteland by Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan (Unsolicited) – A trilogy where kids die at 19? Hmmm sounds intriguing.

Hysteria by Megan Miranda (Netgalley) – The premise is a girl who stabs her boyfriend and can’t remember why. SOUNDS INSANE. LOVE IT.

Also Known As by Robin Benway (Netgalley) – Yo, it’s Robin Benway, of course I had to request it.

Poison by Bridget Zinn (Netgalley) – I requested this expecting to get rejected and then when it was approved, I kind of WHOOPED really loud. SORRY COWOKERS!

How To Lead A Life Of Crime by Kirsten Miller (Netgalley) – Yo, crime is in the title, so of course I requested it.

White Lines by Jennifer Banash (Netgalley) – This book is set in the 1980s in NYC, but there’s drugs. Sounds heavy, but I’m looking forward to it when I need a heavy read.

The Different Girl by Gordon Dahlquist (Netgalley) – A dystopia set on an island? Sounds legit.

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff (Netgalley) – AHH! I love Brenna Yovanoff’s work and I am sure this one is no exception.

The Cadet Of Tildor by Alex Liddell (Netgalley) – Tamora Pierce meets George RR Martin meets my excited face. AHHH!

What a crazy busy week! I won’t go into details but I will say that it is awesome to finally be at the weekend and have a day of rest (tomorrow I’m going to Kim Sabatini’s launch party at Oblong Books). I did not get any books in the mail last week and with the hurricane I wasn’t so selfish as to expect packages what with all the flooding and such in the city. However, I do have a few books to share with you because I didn’t do a mailbox haul post last week, plus I bought a few for my Kindle.

In My Mailbox 11032012

For Review:

The Voyage Of Lucy P. Simmons by Barbara Mariconda (Vine) – I choose this book from Vine because one of my favorite MG authors, Gary Schmidt, has a blurb on the back cover that says this MG book is ‘a hymn to courage’. That’s very appealing to me.

Will Sparrow’s Road by Karen Cushman (Vine) – I picked this one out because it’s short, it’s historical fiction and is all about an orphaned runaway during Elizabethan times. HECK YES.

Colin Fischer by Ashley Edward Miller and Zach Stentz audiobook (Accepted Review Copy) – This was another BEA YA/MG Buzz Book and I am ALL about reading those, plus the story sounds great and it’s narrated by Jesse Eisenberg.

Insurgent: Collector’s Edition by Veronica Roth (Unsolicited) – So, I’ve already read and reviewed Insurgent, however, I will be posting a brief review of the bonus content during a weekend day with a quick link to my review of the story so y’all can decide if you really want this edition or not.

The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters vol. 1 Phantom by “LJ Smith” (Unsolicited) – I’m not entirely sure if I will read this or not, given the whole drama that went down with the series essentially being taken from LJ Smith. That kind of bothers me on a moral level.

The Vampire Diaries: The Hunters vol. 3 Destiny Rising by “LJ Smith” (Unsolicited) – Again, this is the third book and I don’t have book 2 and basically what I said for vol. 1.

Beauty by Lauren Conrad (Unsolicited) – I won’t even pretend I wasn’t excited for this. You guys as a total ugly duckling, I friggen love the Beauty Department website run by Lauren Conrad, so you better believe I am super excited to read through Beauty and get some tips on how not to look like an old hag.

Starstruck by Lauren Conrad (Unsolicited) – I haven’t read the first book, nor do I have a copy of it, so expect a giveaway to come as heck I got the book, might as well promote it by giving it away because there’s definitely an audience for it.

Days Of Blood And Starlight by Laini Taylor (Netgalley) – DUH YOU GUYS. DUHHHH. Of course I immediately accepted this one when it came up in my email omg Karouuuuu Akivaaaaaaaa GET IN MY KINDLE! I swear I will get to this book by Tuesday at the latest.

Purchased:

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien narrated by Rob Inglis audiobook – Do you guys really need me to explain why I bought this? Okay, so I’ve read The Hobbit before, way back in high school, because The Hobbit is totally legit for always. Anyways, I was totally mesmerized by the preview of the audio on Audible, so OF COURSE, I bought it with my credit.

Rootless by Chris Howard narrated by Nick Podehl audiobook – I don’t know what this is about and don’t care. It’s narrated by Nick Podehl and a YA book, and that is enough for me.

Guns, Germs And Steel by Jared Diamond (Kindle) – This nonfiction book is only $3.90 right now on Kindle and when I was getting my degree in social studies education, this was one of the recommended books. Another of the recommended books was A People’s History Of The United States by Howard Zinn, which I absolutely loved. So I am kind of sure I will enjoy this one and learn a lot from it.

When She Woke by Hillary Jordan (Kindle) – This was only $1.99 when I bought it. I immediately purchased it because Shannon at Giraffe Days’ awesome review was still in my mind.

Guys Read: Funny Business edited by Jon Scieszka (Kindle) – This is only $1.99 and the Guys Read series is great, like I loved Guys Read: Thriller, so I think I’ll dig this book too.

The Ghosts Of Ashbury High by Jaclyn Moriarty (Kindle)  - At the time that I purchased, this book was $1.24, but it’s back up to $8 now. So, yes, I feel like I totally scored with this Aussie contemporary book.

Firelight by Kristen Callihan (Kindle) – Yo, Allison at The Allure Of Books read and loved this and that is enough for me. Plus, the $1.99 price tag helps.

A Creed Country Christmas by Linda Lael Miller (Kindle) – Ugh, I just kept looking at this cover on Amazon and was like, okay I like Christmas and I like small towns and I like cowboys and I like low prices. OKAY AMAZON FINE I WILL JUST BUY THIS FOR $1.24. FINE!

Between The Lines by Tammara Webber (Kindle) – I’m such a loser because I haven’t read any of Webber’s books yet, but she seems to be taking my friends, Allison, and the YA blogosphere by storm. At $1.99 yeah, I bought it.

In case you skipped it or missed it, here’s a recap of what we’ve posted here last week:
