A Few January Readalongs

by April (Books&Wine) on December 28, 2010

With the new year comes some exciting readalongs scheduled for January… I can’t freakin wait!

The Woman In White at A Literary Odyssey

Why: It’s on my Project Fill In The Gaps list.

A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollenstonecraft at A Year of Feminist Classics

A Vindication of the Rights of Women

Why: I remember studying the significance of this over and over in AP Euro history, but we never actually read it. Now that I know it’s importance, I’d like to actually read the book myself.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemmingway at The Next Best Book Club goodreads group

Why: It’s a part of my Fill In The Gaps Project. Also, I think I’m old enough now where I will get it.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin at The Women of Fantasy Book Club

Why: This has been on my TBR for a year, plus the premise sounds awesome.

Dust by Elizabeth Bear at The Women of Sci-Fi Book Club

Dust

Why:  I want to try reading Sci-Fi, and this does seem interesting.

So… Im dedicating 1,894 pages of January to group reads but I am actually quite excited, as this is a diverse group of reads.

Are you participating in any readalongs in January?

Oooo, I think I’ll join the one for The Woman in White. I’ve been meaning to read that one for a while, and I have it.

Yay! I am super excited that you are joining!

A Vindication of the Rights of Women is super intense, but good. The Sun Also Rises is quite depressing.

I bought The Woman In White last spring and never got around to reading it, so I’m joining that read-a-long! YAY!

I’m nervous about Vindication, I hope it doesn’t fly over my head. The Sun Also Rises, I think, will be one I enjoy, as I like to be depressed every once in awhile.

I am also excited that you are joining Allie’s readalong!

I’m signed up for A Vindication of the Rights of Women…I have also studied ABOUT it without having actually READ it. I’m toying with whether or not to sign up for the Woman in White ReadAlong…I’ve wanted to read it since the RIP challenge after so many great reviews. I’m also starting a ReadAlong of War and Peace in January but not the 2 month version ( I knew better than that!). The one I’m signed up for covers 365 chapters in 365 days.

I love the RIP challenge, so many good books are recommended at that time.

I may also do that January War and Peace readalong, if it’s just a chapter a day.

I’m in the Women of Sci-Fi and Women of Fantasy book clubs, as well! I’m looking forward to reading January’s books, like, a lot. :D

They do look awesome. I’d never heard of Dust, but love the cover. Plus, I rarely read woman-penned Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Woman in White is one of my all-time favorite classics, you’ll love it. You should read The Moonstone by him too.

Hundred Thousand Kingdoms does look pretty good!

April (Books&Wine) December 30, 2010 at 11:26 am

I will totes put the Moonstone on my TBR.
