It’s Your Duty To Vote… For The Top 100 Young Adult Novels

by April (Books&Wine) on March 18, 2010

As we all know, yesterday was the closing day for nominations for the Top 100 Young Adult Books List. That means we are ready to move to the next stage, which is voting, as there were more than 100 submissions. I spent all day getting the nominations organized in Excel and then tallying nomination votes. After tallying, which sort of meant nothing, I consolidated all the choices, and also consolidated series, so when you go to vote, instead of seeing The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, you will see The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (trilogy) this was done to keep the list under 500 choices. Then entered each and every single answer into a google forms box.

The link will take you to a Google form with check boxes. You can check as many as you want, I have no way of limiting or checking how many you did. However, I would prefer you keep it honest and check under 100 boxes, ideally 25 boxes or less. Also, I believe you will be able to view the results.

Also, I just want to say I am so impressed with how many GLBT and PoC nominations were made! You are all so awesome. :-)

Please, please spread the word, I want as huge of a representation as possible. If you tweet the link, or just link the voting choices somewhere, you will be entered in a contest to win any book of your choice from the final list. You do not need to be a follower to enter or to vote. The book will be shipped directly to you from Book Depository. Leave your link in the comments, or just email me your link.

Voting will close on March 31st.

Thank you all so much!

I'm surprised to see THE PIGMAN, considered the first YA title, and FAT KID RULES THE WORLD, which has been compared to THE CATCHER IN THE RYE, weren't included. I guess that's what I get for not nominating any titles, huh?!

This is great. Thanks.

I don't think it's really fair to have both the classics and contemporaries on the same form. Also, where was "The Chosen One" by Carol Lynch Williams? That would be my vote for the greatest YA book of all time, even when compared with the classics.

I love this list! In the end I had to keep to books that really changed me, instead of just checking away all the books I love :D

Won't lie, I think I voted for over 20. Shame on you if you didn't vote for The Book Thief, or To Kill a Mockingbird :P (jk)

I voted, what a fab idea. There were a few I didn't think were YA and I will debate to the possibly not the death but y'know for a good long hour that 'The Book Thief' was never intended as a YA novel. But I found some cool choices to nominate :)

The list is no longer available, as the voting closed. Can someone please share the results?

On a different note, wouldn't that be great to have a separate section of the site with the ongoing vote? You can see that many recent books made the top, so there could be some interesting dynamics as time goes and books will be moving up and down the list. New books will be introduced and will start to climb up the list and eventually go down as they go out of fashion, while all-time best reads will settle on their places and only firm in their position with time..
