What Are You Reading Monday 8/3/2009

What Are You Reading Mondays are hosted by J. Kaye’s Book Blog! Her blog is pretty neat, so check it out and participate.

Last Week I Read:
The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – Fantasy, Adult, and AMAZING. I highly recommend you check this out!!
Does My Head Look Big In This by Randa Abdel-Fattah – YA, Multicultural – average read, I felt I learned something.
Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay – Adult, Historical Fiction – another average overrated read. Interesting concept, terrible execution.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Dystopia, YA – Fantastic! I loved that this book was a page turner which made me think!
Book Crush by Nancy Pearl – reference – I felt this book would be a great place to look for recommendations. 🙂

I am currently reading:
Madapple by Christina Meldrum – YA – It’s great so far, but I’m not entirely sure what it’s about as I’m only five pages in.
The Road by Cormac McCarthy – Adult, Dystopia – I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The writing style is definitely not what I am used to.

I plan to read:
The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner – YA, Historical Fiction
Keeping Corner by Kashmir Sheth – YA, Multicultural
Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers – YA
Across The Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn – YA Fantasy

Oh, and I finally have a library card again, since I paid off my pesky fines, which means hopefully more YA will pop up in my reviews.

  1. I had a tough time with "The Road." Great writing, but too depressing. Took me a week to shake off that gloom and doom feeling.

  2. The Road has been on my TBR forever. I keep picking it up and putting it back down again. Not sure why. But every time I look at my TV (because I've run out of room and have started stacking on things), it's there, looking back at me.

  3. Looking forward to hearing what you thought about The Road — I read this for book club a few months ago. It is one of those books that really sticks with you.

  4. Wow, great list of books. Have a good week!

  5. sounds like a good plan =)
